Placements

Who can come on a work experience placement?
Work Experience placements are available to Year 10 & 11 students.

How long is the placement?
The placement is for one week only. Due to the heavy demand we have for placements we try to accommodate as many students as possible.

WHAT WILL THE PLACEMENT CONSIST OF?
It is a general administration placement based in Arts Development. A typical week may consist of helping with planning and preparation of projects, assisting in leading backstage tours for a school or community group; assisting on the Heydays project (an arts activity project for the over 55’s), watching a matinee performance and a visit to our Costume Hire department.

How & when to apply

We recommend you book your placement early as we are usually booked up 9 months in advance. If you are looking for a work experience placement between September and May, please send a letter of introduction about yourself which school or college you attend, your interests and the dates you would like to have a placement. Please send your letter to: Placements - Arts Development, West Yorkshire Playhouse, Playhouse Square, Quarry Hill, Leeds, LS2 7UP.

Year 10 june & july 2009 APPLICations

The summer term is our busiest time of year as this is when most students need to fulfil a work experience placement and all places for 2008 are now taken. The procedure for applying for work experience in June and July 2009 is as follows:

  • We invite all interested students to a recruitment evening.
  • Students will have the opportunity to look around the building and ask questions about the placement.
  • If you are still interested you then take an application form away, fill it in and then return it to us.

This will give you the chance to see if it is the kind of placement you really want.  All students are good enough to have a placement but the demand is greater than the provision.  We usually have about 70 students attending the recruitment evening and we have 20 places to offer.  Therefore we cannot guarantee you a place.

To reserve your place on the Recruitment evening please download the Recruitment Evening Invite and return to us by 31 December 2008.

Feedback

"Thank you for letting me enjoy my work experience at the Playhouse.  I had an amazing time.  I learnt how to work well with old and young people. And also this experience has taught me to be more independent.  I thought the work was challenging and fun.  I have been thinking about jobs for the future and am considering may be applying for a job there."
Luke, St John Fisher Catholic High School, Year 10

"I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for having me for a one week placement in your department. I thoroughly enjoyed myself and gained a lot from the experience, especially from being given the chance to work with the crew from the Beautiful Octopus Club. It has given me some points to consider about my future career."
